Whether it’s tackling a question on to an existing election, or letting the referendum standing on it’s own, online referendums are a useful for a variety of reasons. They are typically used to pass motions, or approve budgets and funding allocation. But they don’t always have to be binding either, and can be merely for advisory or consultative purposes.
As previously stated, ElectionBuddy offers the flexibility of running a stand-along referendum or posing a question along side an election that has positions and candidates.
- To run a referendum on it’s own, just selected ‘I don’t have positions up for election, I am only running a referendum’ in Step 1: Election Details.
- To run a referendum along side an election, simply add a referendum question in Step 2: Ballot Design.
